Seventy-six-year-old Marilyn Hampton, a retired custodian for the Aubrey Independent School District, was surprised when officials decided to name a new campus after her.

A Legacy of Service

Hampton, who worked for the district for 39 years, was known for her dedication and compassion. She not only maintained the school buildings but also went above and beyond by buying and delivering supplies, helping students study, and teaching them the values of kindness, hard work, and perseverance. Even after retiring in 2022, she continues to serve the community by caring for babies and toddlers at the Aubrey ISD Early Bird Learning Center.

During a school board meeting, officials surprised Hampton by asking her to roll out a red carpet bearing the name ‘Marilyn Hampton Elementary School.’ The moment left her speechless, and she expressed her gratitude with a heartfelt ‘Y’all are the best,’ as the board gave her a standing ovation.

Hampton, who is the only one of her siblings to graduate from high school, previously believed she hadn’t accomplished much in life. However, her service and kindness have proven otherwise.
