A new poll indicates a significant shift in the political preferences of Jewish voters, with Republicans leading Democrats by 31 points in the congressional ballot. According to a survey by McLaughlin & Associates, 64 percent of Jewish voters supported Republicans, compared to 33 percent for Democrats. This marks a notable departure from the traditional Democratic advantage among Jewish voters.

Historical Trends and Sample Size Concerns

The poll highlights a potential change in the political landscape, although the firm cautioned that the sample size of Jewish voters was relatively small. The survey included 1,000 likely midterm voters nationwide, with Jewish voters representing four percent of the sample. The exact number of Jewish respondents and the margin of error for this group were not disclosed.

Regional Trends and Religious Groups

There have also been signs of a narrower Democratic advantage among Jewish voters in New York. According to CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten, the party’s lead among Jewish voters in the state dropped from 49 points in 2022 to 13 points this year. The poll also examined the preferences of other religious groups, with Protestants favoring Republicans 51 percent to 43 percent, and Catholics narrowly backing the GOP at 48 percent to 46 percent.

Religious and Secular Preferences

Evangelical Christians showed a strong preference for Republicans, with 56 percent supporting the party compared to 37 percent for Democrats. Among secular, atheist, agnostic, or religiously unaffiliated individuals, Democrats led with 51 percent to 43 percent. Muslim voters, who made up just two percent of the survey, favored Democrats by 63 percent to 37 percent.

Comparisons to Previous Elections

The McLaughlins noted that Republicans’ lead among Catholics was smaller than Trump’s 20-point margin with the group in 2024. They also highlighted that the eight-point lead among Protestants in their poll was lower than Trump’s 27-point lead among Protestants and other Christians in the 2024 exit poll. These findings suggest a complex and evolving dynamic in the political preferences of various religious and secular groups.
