A detransition clinic has officially opened in Texas, marking the nation’s first such facility. The clinic, located at Texas Children’s Hospital, offers free medical care to patients seeking to reverse gender treatments following a landmark $10 million settlement over the hospital’s treatment of minors.
Settlement and Legal Background
The hospital had provided gender-transition treatments to minors for years, with the settlement addressing alleged misconduct dating back to 2010. Texas Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton, who’s now running for U.S. Senate, launched an investigation in 2023 after allegations surfaced that the hospital continued providing prohibited treatments to children. Former Texas Children’s nurse and whistleblower Vanessa Sivadge announced the clinic’s opening, celebrating the victory after exposing the hospital’s transgender medical practices and helping bring scrutiny to its billing of taxpayer-funded Medicaid.
Services and Scope
Under the settlement, the hospital must provide detransition-related care free of charge for five years, including endocrinology, surgery, fertility counseling, mental health services, and primary care. The clinic serves patients through age 21, with certain gynecological services available to older patients, according to the clinic website.

Vanessa Sivadge wrote, “I think of all the detransitioners who have suffered in silence, been dismissed, and fought desperately to have their voices heard. This win is for them.”
Texas Children’s previously said it paused gender-transition treatments for minors in 2022 but was accused of continuing them afterward. The hospital has maintained that it complied with the law and settled without admitting wrongdoing. In a statement sent to The Daily Wire back in May, Texas Children’s Hospital said its move to settle with the Texas attorney general was a “difficult decision.”
The settlement, it said, was aimed at “closing a chapter that has been wrought with falsehoods and distractions.” To be clear — we are settling to protect our resources from endless and costly litigation,” the hospital added. “This settlement will allow us to redirect those precious resources to focus on the life-saving care and groundbreaking discoveries of our exceptional clinicians and scientists.”
