Trump Threatens to Move ‘Fake News’ But Won’t Restore Old Pool

President Donald Trump has suggested he may relocate the media to a less obnoxious location but has ruled out restoring the old White House swimming pool. In a post on Truth Social, Trump dismissed reports that he was considering bringing back the pool beneath the current briefing room as ‘fake news.’
‘Although I may move the Fake News to a less obnoxious location, the old swimming pool will never be brought back,’ Trump wrote, adding that he ‘NEVER even thought to do such a stupid thing.’
The New York Times reported that Trump had discussed the idea of restoring the indoor therapy pool, installed in 1933 for Franklin D. Roosevelt, with then-Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt. The pool was later covered by Nixon’s administration to accommodate the expanding press corps.
Trump posted side-by-side images on Truth Social, labeling the current briefing room as ‘Fake News’ and the old pool as ‘FDR Pool.’ Former Press Secretary Leavitt confirmed on HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher that Trump had been ‘flirting’ with the idea of moving the media.
‘It was a swimming pool at one time. In fact, if you go down the stairs, underneath where the briefing room is, you can actually see the tile from where the pool used to be,’ Leavitt said, adding that she was unsure if Trump would follow through with the plan.
While Trump has expressed a preference for restoring the FDR pool, the idea remains speculative. The White House has not confirmed any plans to move the media or bring back the pool. The administration continues to focus on other policy priorities, with no indication that the pool restoration is a near-term goal.
