Minnesota congresswoman deletes social media post amid ongoing investigation into family ties and marriage allegations.

Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar has deleted a social media post that previously linked her father to her ex-husband, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, amid ongoing scrutiny over her personal life and alleged family relationships. The post, which was removed after being reported by the New York Post, included a message in Somali: “Happy Father’s Day to my aabo Nur Said, I am forever grateful to Allah for giving me the best father.” The term “aabo” translates to “father” in Somali, Omar’s native language.
Family Ties and Legal Scrutiny
The post has sparked renewed questions about Omar’s family connections, as federal investigators have alleged that her real name is Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, closely matching the name of her ex-husband, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi. Omar married Elmi in 2009, and critics have long claimed that he is her brother, suggesting the marriage was an attempt to secure him a green card, which he never obtained.
When directly asked if she had married her brother, Omar responded, “Not to my knowledge.” She later reaffirmed her name as Ilhan Abdullahi Omar, stating, “Ilhan Abdullahi Omar, you know it,” during an interview with Fox News Digital. Omar also accused the Department of Justice of engaging in “corrupt” behavior, claiming that the agency was perpetuating “right-wing conspiracy theories” against her.
Investigation and Personal Impact
The Department of Justice recently searched Omar’s home as part of an ongoing criminal investigation. The agency reportedly took seventeen of her personal items, including her phone, and later returned them after complying with court orders. Omar, however, expressed concern over the raid, stating it made her feel unsafe and prompting her to move out of her Washington, D.C. home.
“Obviously, I can’t continue to live there,” Omar said in an interview. “So, we have to figure out where to move to because our address has been public, and with the death threats that I deal with, it’s no longer going to be feasible to be in that house and have my kids visiting off and on, having people track them.”
Omar remains confident in her position, asserting, “I’m confident in my truth. I’m confident in the fact that I didn’t do anything wrong.” As the investigation continues, the controversy surrounding her family ties and legal status remains a focal point of public and political discourse.
