Veteran Action has released an ad encouraging voters to urge their senators to confirm Hung Cao as the next Secretary of the Navy. The ad highlights Cao’s extensive military background and his commitment to national security.
American Hero with Global Experience
The ad, exclusive to Breitbart News, begins with a personal story from Cao, who escaped communist Vietnam as a child and credits America for saving his life. It emphasizes his 25 years of service in the Navy Special Operations, including roles as a Bomb Disposal Officer, diver, and parachutist, with combat tours in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Somalia.
As Acting Secretary of the Navy, Cao leads the fleet amid growing global naval threats, particularly from China’s rapid naval expansion. Veteran Action founder Mark Lucas stated that Cao’s combat experience and leadership are essential for the Navy to stay ahead of these threats.
Cao’s Military Career and Background
Cao and his family fled Vietnam in 1975 and later moved to West Africa before returning to the U.S. He graduated from the inaugural class of Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology. He joined the U.S. Navy as a Seaman Recruit in 1989 and was commissioned as a Special Operations Officer from the Naval Academy in 1996.
Throughout his career, Cao led underwater missions and counter-improvised threat operations around the world. His final tour included sensitive activities in support of combatant commanders and special operations. He retired in October 2021 as a Captain.
Recent Pentagon Announcements
In April, the Pentagon announced that former Secretary of the Navy John Phelan was leaving his role, and Hung Cao would serve as the Acting Secretary of the Navy. Veteran Action has supported Cao’s nomination, praising his remarkable American story and his dedication to serving his country.
