In a dramatic NFL week, the Minnesota Vikings remain the lone undefeated team in the league after securing a 16-10 victory over the Indianapolis Colts. Meanwhile, the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs both suffered notable losses, with the 49ers falling to the Atlanta Falcons and the Chiefs being held in check by the Seattle Seahawks.

49ers’ Struggles Continue Despite Injuries

Despite a depleted roster and a slew of injuries, the 49ers opened the season 6-0 but faltered in a 29-20 loss to the Falcons. The team, missing key players like Mike Evans and Deebo Samuel Sr., struggled to maintain momentum after a 14-3 lead. Quarterback Brock Purdy threw a costly interception near midfield with under three minutes left, allowing the Falcons to score 13 points on San Francisco’s four turnovers.

Purdy acknowledged the team’s offensive struggles, stating, “We had the momentum, we were moving the ball well, I feel like we were running the ball really well offensively and then all of the sudden it’s like a couple plays make you feel like dang, we’re not doing our job.” He emphasized the importance of protecting the football, noting that costly mistakes “start with me at quarterback and bleed into everybody else.”

Chiefs Fall to Seahawks’ ‘Dark Side’ Defense

The Chiefs, led by Patrick Mahomes, faced a tough test against the Seattle Seahawks’ formidable defense. Mahomes completed just 57.6% of his passes and failed to guide Kansas City’s offense into the red zone for the first time in his career. The Seahawks’ defense held Walker to just 36 yards rushing on 14 carries, shutting down the Chiefs’ explosive running game.

Mahomes admitted the team’s performance fell short, stating, “You don’t want to perform like this in prime time in a big moment like this.” The Chiefs, with a 5-1 record, now face a crucial matchup for first place in the AFC West against the Denver Broncos.

Vikings Battle to Stay Perfect

The Vikings, now 6-0, continue to be the last undefeated team in the league after their defensive effort held the Colts to just 218 yards. Despite a shaky offensive performance, Kyler Murray threw for 150 yards, and the Vikings managed just 275 total yards.

Coach Kevin O’Connell acknowledged the team’s need for improvement, stating, “You can’t get down on it right now, just because it’s still relatively early enough that we’re catching our stride. But at the same time, we know, with the type of teams that are going to be on our schedule the rest of the way and where we want to go with this team, we’ll keep progressing.”

Other Notable Games and Moments

The week also saw the Pittsburgh Steelers secure a 16-10 win over the New Orleans Saints in the NFL’s first regular-season game in France. Meanwhile, the Lions faced a controversial fourth-down decision by coach Dan Campbell, which led to a missed opportunity to secure a win.
