Alaska Democrat Senate candidate Mary Peltola has postponed her campaign events following a car accident that caused minor injuries, according to her campaign. The incident occurred on Saturday night in Anchorage, as Peltola and her family were heading to the Alaska Federation of Natives Annual Banquet.

Peltola’s campaign manager, Cheryl Bruce, confirmed that the candidate and her family sustained minor injuries but are in good spirits. Bruce noted that medical professionals advised Peltola to take time to recover, leading to the rescheduling of her upcoming events in Fairbanks and Bethel for later in the week.

Bruce expressed disappointment over the accident, which is delaying the start of Peltola’s Alaska Always Tour. She emphasized Peltola’s eagerness to engage with Alaskans about her campaign promises to address systemic issues and lower costs for working families.

Peltola is currently in a tight race against Republican incumbent Dan Sullivan, who holds a small lead in the polls. Despite Trump’s strong performance in Alaska in 2024, the current midterm ballot is complicated by the presence of a third candidate, Daniel J. Sullivan, who shares a similar name with the incumbent.

Republicans initially succeeded in removing the other Dan Sullivan from the ballot, citing concerns over his good faith and alleged ties to a Democrat strategist. However, a judge later reversed the decision, and Alaska’s highest court upheld it. The Department of Justice has since filed a lawsuit to block Alaska from certifying results if the incumbent does not win.

The election’s complexity adds uncertainty to the race, with the potential for votes to be split between the two Dan Sullivans. As the midterms approach, Peltola’s campaign faces the challenge of maintaining momentum while navigating the political landscape.
