Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) has requested detailed data from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) regarding the deportation of undocumented immigrants, according to a report by Breitbart News. The request comes as part of an ongoing effort to assess the effectiveness of immigration enforcement and to determine whether additional resources or legislative action are needed to address the issue.

Request for Deportation Data

In a letter to DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin, Roy emphasized the need for Congress to be fully informed about the department’s progress in implementing President Trump’s commitment to a large-scale deportation initiative. The letter notes that the Trump administration aimed to deport one million undocumented immigrants per year, but the current administration has faced challenges in meeting these goals.

Roy highlighted that while DHS officials have reported over 605,000 deportations in 2025, other sources suggest a lower number, around 230,000. Additionally, the department has noted that approximately 2.2 million undocumented immigrants have self-deported since late January 2025.

Focus on Enforcement Strategies

Roy’s letter also called for detailed information on how the deportation efforts are being managed, including the prioritization of individuals with criminal records and the conduct of worksite enforcement operations. He stated that the data would help Congress evaluate the effectiveness of current enforcement strategies and determine if more support is required.

Roy noted that while DHS has been working around the clock to expand interior enforcement, the agency’s efforts must be transparent to ensure accountability. He also mentioned that similar letters have been sent by other House Republicans, underscoring a broader concern about the current state of immigration enforcement.

Need for Transparency and Accountability

The request for detailed data reflects a growing demand for transparency in immigration policy, especially after the nation has faced significant border challenges. Roy’s letter emphasizes the importance of keeping Congress informed about the status of deportation efforts to ensure that the executive branch is fulfilling its responsibilities under the law.
