Democrat Alaska Senate candidate Mary Peltola was injured in a car crash on Saturday, her campaign confirmed on Sunday. The incident occurred while she was en route to the Alaska Federation of Natives’ annual banquet. Peltola suffered non-life-threatening injuries that required medical attention, and her campaign announced that events scheduled in Fairbanks and Bethel for Sunday and Monday were postponed.

“Mary and her family sustained minor injuries but are in good spirits. Unfortunately, per the advice of medical professionals, Mary’s upcoming events in Fairbanks and Bethel will be rescheduled for later in the week as she takes time to recover,” said Peltola campaign manager Cheryl Bruce in a statement.

“Mary is disappointed that the accident is delaying the start of her Alaska Always Tour, and she is eager to get back on the campaign trail to speak directly with Alaskans about her plan to take on the rigged system and lower costs for working families,” Bruce added.

The police department in Anchorage confirmed Sunday that a collision involving three vehicles occurred on Saturday evening, with all parties sustaining non-life-threatening injuries. Peltola’s campaign did not release details about the other driver involved or the cause of the crash.

Alaska’s Senate race has turned into a legal battle after the Democrats used a decoy candidate to confuse voters. The Justice Department on Friday sued to block Alaska’s Senate certification if incumbent GOP Senator Dan Sullivan loses over the Democrats’ dirty trick to use a ‘decoy’ Dan Sullivan on the ballot.

A Democrat operative worked to register a man named Daniel J. Sullivan as Dan S. Sullivan (the incumbent Senator’s name) as a Republican primary challenger. The decoy saboteur, Daniel J. Sullivan, is a Democrat and has a team of Democrats working for him, but they registered him as a Republican to cause chaos and confusion during Alaska’s August primary.

After that plan failed to add the decoy Dan Sullivan to the primary ballot over the summer, Daniel J. Sullivan’s name will appear on the Alaska ballot in the general election in November. The lawsuit is seeking an order to block the Senate election results from being certified “if: (1) Senator Sullivan does not win the election; and (2) had all votes cast for Daniel J. Sullivan been cast instead for Senator Sullivan and Alaska’s rank-choice process played out accordingly, Senator Sullivan would have won the election.”
